Viewfinder tool

Objective

This page explains how to capture, review, and surface on-site reference photos of a TotaLite setup so the platform can provide better project context. It also covers how to view the photos in the platform after setup is complete.

Key Steps

1. Open the device setup flow in the mobile app

  • Open the mobile app.
  • Tap View Devices.
  • Select the target device you are setting up or reviewing.
  • Tap Start/Restart setup

2. Capture the viewfinder photo

  • When prompted during setup, use the viewfinder tool.
  • Position your phone so the lenses are in front of the TotaLite front glass.
  • Make sure all targets are contained within the TotaLite field of view.
  • Use the timer to take the photo.
  • Accept the new image if it correctly shows the field of view.

3. Continue setup and capture additional photos while waiting for the first measurement

  • Proceed through the remaining setup checks:
    • target verification,
    • reflective surface check,
    • device power adjustment,
    • measurement start.
  • When the app prompts you during the waiting period, capture the remaining reference photos.
  • Take or update:
    • the asset photo,
    • the setup photo.
  • Use the pencil icon in the top-right corner to edit either photo if needed.

4. Return to measurement and finish the setup process

  • After confirming the reference photos, tap Continue.
  • Return to the measuring screen.
  • Wait for the measurement to complete.
  • Finish the setup process using the normal end-of-flow steps.

5. After completing the setup, feel free to review and update the three required reference photos

  • Tap on the Devices tab and select your target device.
  • Check the existing reference photos for the device.
  • Review or update the three reference photos
    • Viewfinder photo: shows what TotaLite sees and includes the field of view.
    • Asset photo: shows the overall asset or project context.
    • Setup photo: shows the TotaLite sensor installation, including brackets and positioning.
  • Use these photos to verify the device context is captured clearly.

6. Update a reference photo using the camera or gallery

  • If any reference photo needs improvement, choose to update it.
  • Use either:
    • the camera to take a new photo, or
    • the gallery to select an existing image.
  • Replace the photo that best matches the required view.
  • Ensure the updated image is relevant and clear before continuing.

7. View and update the photos in the platform

  • Open the platform after setup is complete.
  • Navigate to the relevant project.
  • The reference photos should now be visible, both at the top of the page and in the device section.
  • If you need to update you asset or setup photo, first open it, then click the Replace photo button in the bottom-right corner.
