Reference Points & Compensation for Sensor Movements
TotaLite Sensor uses a compensation algorithm capable of compensating for rotations of the device using an on-board accelerometer, reference points and historical data trends to filter noise and maintain stability. The on board accelerometer will compensate for Pitch and Roll (as long as the sensor is installed within spec. <20° pitch or roll). However, for yaw compensation a reference target is required. Reference points are so-called fixed points that show no deformations (or significantly less than the monitoring points).
Reference Point Requirements
- Located outside the zone of influence of the monitored structure
- Installed on stable foundations (e.g., established buildings, stable tunnel sections)
Critical Warning: The position and measurement quality of reference points directly affects all monitoring results. Poor reference point quality will compromise the accuracy of all monitoring targets.
Compensation Mode
The current TotaLite Sensor can correct movements of the sensor.
- Corrects for rotations only (pitch, roll, yaw)
- Does not compensate for translations (sensor movement in X, Y, Z directions)
- Requires fixed sensor installation - the sensor must be mounted on a stable, non-translating position
- Stops data delivery when compensation cannot be reliably performed, preventing inaccurate data

Yaw, Pitch and Roll Rotations
⚠️ NOTE:
If the requirement of <20° Pitch and Roll cannot be met, the Pitch, Roll and Yaw can only be compensated with a minimum of 2 reference targets, with the downside being the risk of a poor quality reference point. It is always preferred to adhere to the requirement of the sensor to be installed <20° Pitch.
