How to get TotaLite Sensor to stream measurements data

 

TotaLite is an online monitoring device and requires an internet connection. The TotaLite Sensor offers two connectivity methods for data transmission and remote management.

 

Connectivity Requirements

  • For LTE Connectivity, the location of the installation is to be covered by LTE-M or 4G network which our eSIM card provider can rout itself to.
  • For Ethernet Connectivity make sure the sensor is plugged into a network with a DHCP-enabled router.

     

LTE Cellular Configuration

The built-in LTE-M module provides wireless connectivity anywhere with cellular coverage powered by an eSIM managed completely by the TotaLite Team. The TotaLite sensor automatically connects to available networks using the installed eSIM.

Ethernet Connection

For installations without cellular connectivity, connect the TotaLite Sensor over ethernet. The sensor has two female M12 X-coded 8-pin connectors. Use a cable with a male X-coded 8-pin connector on the sensor side and an RJ45 connector on the network side. Maximum cable length is 200 metres. The connectors also support daisy-chaining multiple TotaLite Sensors.

Connect the sensor to a network with a DHCP-enabled router — it will assign an IP address automatically. As long as the router has internet access and your firewall allows traffic from the TotaLite, the connection works without further configuration. We don't provide support for network configuration itself, yet you can follow the instructions in the Ethernet Configuration article.

NOTE: TotaLite Sensor doesn't support static IP configuration; if the router fails to assign an address four times in a row, the sensor reboots after roughly 20 minutes.

NOTE: When connecting over ethernet, use a controlled and secure network. TotaLite doesn't add protection against threats present on uncontrolled networks, so access must be restricted to authorised users only.

M12 X Coded

⚠️NOTE: The sensor ships configured for LTE. Ethernet is disabled by default and requires separate firmware to activate — contact support@totalite.io to switch. Once connected to the internet, the sensor uploads measurements automatically. If connectivity drops, it stores up to 250 measurements locally and uploads the buffered data once the connection is restored.

 

⚠️NOTE: The sensor uses an Authorization Key to secure its configuration interface. If you change it, keep it 18–32 characters, avoid dictionary words or predictable patterns, and use only a–z, A–Z, 0–9, and !@#$^&*()_+{}|:<>?. We advise against adjusting anything else outside this manual.

 

4G Router

In cases where neither LTE-M or Ethernet are available TotaLite can provide a fallback option by using a Ubiquiti Industrial 4G-Router. This weatherproof device will be supplied by Totalite and will come with an extensive manual explaining how to connect said device to the TotaLite sensor(s).
